After many evening walks down Pomfret Street looking for the right location, and lots of encouragement from her husband and 3 children, Hilary decided to open one herself. Jill came on board once she decided she was not going back to teaching after becoming a new mom. It took many long days and late nights to get the shop open for customers, and it truly was a group effort. We could not have done it without the support of our families. So, most days you will find Hilary manning the shop, however, occasionally you may be greeted by Jill's two little boys. They are not quite old enough to sell yarn so Jill mostly keeps them busy outside of the shop. We are thrilled to be able to expand our circle of friends by opening the doors of our shop to the World Wide Web. So, as we tell our customers when they come in the shop, “Take your time, look around, and let us know if you have any questions.”

Welcome to the Yarn Garden in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. As two people at very different stages in life, we often get asked how we ended up in this venture together. About 5 years ago we found ourselves working with each other in the same 5th grade classroom; Jill, a fairly new teacher, and Hilary an experienced classroom aide. Eventually our conversations branched out beyond our students and we realized that we both shared an interest in knitting. As the year went on, we began sharing knitting tips, patterns, and good yarn finds. But, most of all, we often wondered why Carlisle didn't have a yarn shop of its own.
