Dyed Bright Here...
High Society Sock Yarn
The Yarn Garden opened for business October 14, 2006. The shop is located in the heart of the historic district of Carlisle, Pennsylvania at 52 West Pomfret Street. The Yarn Garden features a veritable “garden” of colors and specialty yarns. During warmer months you may even find our customers knitting in the tranquil garden of our back patio.
The Yarn Garden carries many beautiful and unusual yarns with interesting textures and exquisite colors. Cozy, calming, and inviting are words customers use to describe the shop. The array of beautiful yarns inspires the experienced knitter’s creativity and entices the non-knitter to want to learn how to knit.

Sue Taliaferro is the BrightEyedDyer behind Dyed Bright Here. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia.
She is a relative newcomer to the yarn and fiber world. She taught herself how to knit early in 2005 in order to knit a baby blanket for a pregnant friend. In doing so she discovered a new love (ok, it's an obsession) and a previously hidden talent. By the end of that first year knitting she had made 8 sweaters (7 of which she designed herself), the baby blanket (a simple lace pattern), a few dishcloths, some scarves and hats, and was learning how to knit socks.
In her 2nd year knitting Sue decided to try her hand at dyeing her own yarn. She started out with kool-aid, moved on to other food safe dyes and finally graduated to professional acid dyes before the year was out.
The next year she taught herself spinning with drop spindles realising her goal of knitting a pair of socks from yarn she had spun and plied herself.
Sock knitting quickly became her favorite kind of project. The combination of portability, low total project cost compared to sweaters, the blank canvas on which to experiment with any knitting technique she desired (and she's tried just about all of them), and most importantly the amazing, crazy, awesome, vibrant, cool, quirky (you get the idea) sock yarns with which to create had her hooked!
Focusing on sock yarn to feed her growing obsession; she soon started experimenting with bright colors, unusual color combinations, patterning, and application methods. As she did so, her stash of hand painted and hand dyed sock yarns grew exponentially. Eventually she needed to either stop playing in the dyes quite so much, learn to knit a whole lot faster, or go into business.
And, that is how Dyed Bright Here was born. Today the BrightEyedDyer has over 15 established colorways and is constantly experimenting with new colorways for upcoming seasons. A special feature of her yarn line is the Limited Edition (LE) Colorways that are unique to each shop that carries her yarn and are designed in collaboration with the shop owners. These special colors are created in small batches and are only available at the shop that created them and only for a limited time.
You can see all of the Dyed Bright Here Colorways and read about her latest color experiments, dyeing adventures, and dyer notes on the colorways at http://www.Dyedbrighthere.com. You can also follow her on twitter @BrightEyedDyer.Click here to add text.
